Ravished by the Rake

by Louise Allen

Book reviewed by Cybil Solyn

Louise Allen has proven once again why she's among the best voices in Regency romance. Who knew a book set on aboard a ship for three months could be so action packed?

Lady Perdita Brooke has finished her year of exile in India for eloping with the wrong man, only to meet up with right man on her way back to London. Now, stuck on ship together, she and Alistair Lyndon find themselves drawn to one another. But where Dita knows what they once shared when she was only 16, Alistair can only think of ways to fulfill the erotic dreams he's had of her for the past eight years. It seems what Perdita found as the most magical way to lose her virginity, Alistair had chalked up to a drunken hallucination.

This is the first book in Allen's "Danger and Desire" series, which is billed as "Shipwreck, Scandal, and Society Weddings," and I have to say that every part of this book was a rollicking good time - even the shipwreck which I would usually see as a lame plot device. Allen really has a way of making the mundane extraordinary. Who knew a three month ship voyage could be so exciting?!

Alistair is a handsome devil with some serious family baggage. He hasn't spoken to his father in years, but he's a good man. Whereas Dita has an amazing family, who she is very close to, who she keeps upsetting with her headstrong ways. Don't get the wrong idea though. Dita may be strong willed, but she's smart and willing to accept when she's wrong. Together these two led me on a merry chase to get them wed. I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

Bottom Line: Another Keeper from Louise Allen!

“Ravished by a rake once, shame on him. Ravished by a rake TWICE....well this one better be for love.”

Vivacious lady Perdita Brooke prides herself on her social poise…except when faced with devastatingly dashing Alistair Lyndon. The dreamy young man Dita once knew is now a hardened rake, who clearly does not remember their passionate night together…however much it's emblazoned on her memory!
