The Devil's Match

The Devil's Match is the fourth and last installment in "The Devil DeVere" series. As I mentioned in the previous reviews, this is an erotica series of novellas. While the first two books have been printed and released the second two are currently in ebook format only.

Four years ago, Ludovic had to make a choice. He could stay in London, be with Diana and watch a jealous ex-lover ruin her reputation or he could leave Diana behind and save her from humiliation. Since he doesn't believe in relationships that last he decided leaving now was the best way forward.

Diana had fallen completely in love with Ludovic and when he left her with barely a goodbye, she lost all faith she had in him. Now he's back and she knows he is responsible for her goddaughter's disappearance but the horrible man won't tell her what he's done.

Ludovic had no problem helping his goddaughter take his brother away and out of Diana's reach. When he saw Diana and his brother growing close he knew there was no way he could let that happen. In four years he had not managed to forget Diana for even a moment. Now he just has to figure out how he can convince her that he won't leave this time.

Through all of the three books there is just the slightest hint that Ludovic is really not as devilish as he seems, but only a hint. Just enough to make me really want to hear his side of the story. Finally in this book I got to see his softer side, and it was well worth the wait.

While these were four short stories about different people, the overlying arc was fantastically done. Ms. Vane managed to make the books complete on their own so you could walk away feeling like you had completed a story, while at the same time making the overall storyline continue in a seamless way. I was very impressed.

Ultimately, you could read this book as a standalone and follow along well enough. But you would be missing the depth that came from following the entire path.
